Gin is still a child, and is a member of a magical species called Faru. Unlike others of her kin she lacks any magic reserves, relying entirely on her mana-boosting bracelets and a shard from a mana gem to provide her with mana for her spells.
Gin is gentle, polite and shy, calling others by 'mister' and 'miss' when addressing them and bowing when saying thanks. Having been separated from the other Faru in an attack, she was found and taken in by Speedline, currently staying with him, Kikari and Devic while they try to find the whereabouts of her family. She takes particular comfort in Speedline, who is determined to keep her happy. (Thanks to this determination, the room Gin and Speedline share is filled with colorful plush toys.)
She favors healing and support magic, though she can use offensive magic as well. Her spells are a bit looser in nature than most and require a lot of focus, since she's had very little training.
Other notes:
When she was smaller, she wore her ribbons in bows, but they came undone while she was on her own and she can't tie them neatly herself. She associates the bows with her family, so she's opted to let the ribbons hang down until she can be reunited with them as she associates the loosely hanging ribbons with Speedline and his friends.
When out and about, Gin likes to keep her mana gem shard in a kind of magic storage space, so it's easy to reach should she need it. (If she's at home it's just kept in her room.)
The mana-boosting bracelets' effect is based on the wearer's existing mana reserves, so even wearing four of them, Gin doesn't have a lot of mana to work with. As a result, she generally only has enough mana to summon her gem shard - and without her bracelets, she can't even do that much.
Due to the above, Gin is trying to strengthen her natural mana reserves through practicing small spells without the use of the shard. It's ... quite a work in progress.
The gem shard was given to her by her brother, a traveler who was very keen on helping her conquer her problems. It contains an endless pool of mana, which anyone can draw from. When in use, the gem glows brightly and begins to hover.
Before she got the gem shard there wasn't much point in Gin practicing magic, so she instead learned how to play the flute.
