But one day when she was heading out to gather food, a car struck Mama and the humans inside took her away. Second chased after the car, but couldn't catch up; and when he returned to the nest, First and Third weren't there anymore. It's now up to Second to find his missing siblings, bring them to safety, and find some way to save his mother - in the process meeting many new cats, and exploring parts of the city he's never been to before.
Other notes:
The original Misty Alleys was a now-unavailable halloween minigame where Second wandered away from his sleeping family, got lost, and had to collect items to help him find his way back home. This minigame is what lay the foundation for the current game concept.
Misty Alleys was based on the game Shadowgate, so there are many ways to die, though they're only described as text.
Second's name is because he was the second-born, but I also considered having it be the measure of time, in which case the other kittens would be "Minute" and "Hour". It's funny to have Mama just be bad at names though.
Throughout his journey, Second interacts with multiple ghost cats as well as the Grim Reaper (if you die), so it seems that he is popular with them! He goes through some frightening situations, but won't let them stop him from rescuing his family.
