Artfight Page Information
Personality:
If you hear rowdy laughter and cheerful conversation, Windframe's probably nearby; a young bot who finds comfort in listening to others, Windframe is friendly, curious and easy to approach. He's also stubborn - if he thinks he can help, he won't accept 'no' for an answer, backing down only to do it behind your back later. He strives to never make the same mistake twice, though some of his "mistakes" are things like "heeding radio silence"...
Lore:
Windframe was born during the war... And as a sparkling, wanting to help, he started spying for the Autobots unprompted. They tried to make him stop, worried he'd get himself killed, but to no avail - even having one of their mechanics (Headlight) babysit him didn't work long.
Finally they struck a deal with Windframe, saying he could be an Autobot if he went through academy training, which kept him busy until he'd matured a bit. Once he'd officially joined, he did well as a lookout and scout, always seeking assignments ... until on one mission, everything went wrong. His teammates were killed and Windframe was injured, stranded in enemy territory for over a week; an event that affected him heavily and sparked several coping mechanisms, leading to the personality he has today.
He returned to duty after some time, and some hundred years after this mission, Windframe is sent to Earth to help with the war efforts there; getting to learn about an entirely new planet with new inhabitants that he quickly grows to adore.

Windframe was part of a 5-person recon team, and was supposed to warn for Decepticons. But his team instead sent him to scout ahead and while he was away, the others were ambushed. Windframe panicked and turned back to help, which got him spotted and shot down. Grounded due to his injuries, he was forced to flee deeper into Decepticon territory to survive - he searched for a way to get out or reunite with his allies, but couldn't find one until a small rescue team saved him eight days later.
Since he had to flee, Windframe wasn't able to tell exactly what happened to most of his team. Hearing he was the only survivor came as a shock... He was not close with the others, as it was his first mission with them, but their deaths still affected him badly and he blames himself for what happened.
Because the team was meant to practice radio silence and Windframe's comms were broken in the attack, it took 3 days for Autobot HQ to find out about the attack and two more to hear Windframe was alive. But higher-ups hesitated to spend manpower on a "possibly-dead rookie", delaying rescue further until Headlight convinced them.
While the mission wasn't a total failure, as Windframe brought back important intel about the Decepticon activities, it hurts if anyone considers it a success.
The coping mechanisms caused by this mission are: Refusal to heed radio silence, refusal to stray far from his team even if ordered to, finding comfort in Autobot voices/presences, and bringing a blaster on missions despite his poor marksmanship. Windframe does not acknowledge these as coping mechanisms, but admits he feels safer doing them.
Abilities/weaknesses:
Windframe has enhanced sensors which allows him to pick up sounds, visuals, energy signatures etc in more detail and across a much greater range than others, even when he's not actively trying. He can hear the smallest of whispers and detect movement even behind himself, making him largely impossible to sneak up on. That said, he trusts his sensors too much, and often fails to take precautions for anything they don't pick up...
He can't turn off his sensors, so he's much more vulnerable to sensory attacks than other Cybertronians, and his heightened sense of touch has given him a very low pain tolerance. He sometimes suffers sensory overload if too much happens too suddenly.
He can't fight, so on the battlefield, Windframe instead helps by circling overhead and warning his allies about reinforcements, sneak attacks, or enemies playing possum. If he's targeted and wounded doing this, Windframe will flee out of fear of being shot down.
Other notes:
He's still young and considered a rookie, though he can get defensive if someone implies he can't handle himself or hasn't seen hardship. He has! He knows what he's doing! (He doesn't say what hardships, though - he dislikes thinking or talking about them.)
Windframe can't go into deep recharge. His sensors wake him if there's any notable environmental changes (someone getting close, noise levels changing, etc), so he's a very light sleeper. But if he's so drained his sensors are offline, he instead sleeps like the dead and is near impossible to wake. Due to this, he rarely dreams.
He often scouts solo, since his sensory range is so much greater than his peers'. If he is in a team, he stays relatively close to them and prioritizes their safety.
Windframe's opinion on humans is "if not friend, why friend-shaped?". He's been told they can be dangerous, but finds them cute in a "puppies in people costumes" way. He likes watching them on slow days, but is hesitant to touch them since he doesn't know how fragile they are. He kinda wants to pet them.
Windframe's best friend/babysitter, Headlight, is an Autobot mechanic. Since he mostly stayed on base, he was chosen to distract the sparkling Windframe from scouting, which he did by claiming to need help at the workshop. As a result Windframe knows a little bit about mechanic stuff! Headlight grew fond of him during these times, and is quite protective of him.

Creations with this character:
THE LITTLE WAYS TO FEEL SAFE (Written one-shot stories, Ongoing)
A collection of one-shot stories about Windframe and how he manages after a heavily traumatic mission, showcasing the various ways he copes and changes his behaviour.
THE NEW SCOUT (Story, Concept)
An idea for a story where Bumblebee first meets the newly arrived Windframe, and soon starts to feel like he's going to be replaced since Windframe's seemingly better at everything, leading him to act more reckless until the two get in trouble and he finds out Windframe's incapable of actually fighting. They become proper friends after.
UNNAMED STORY CONCEPT (Story, Concept)
An idea for a story where Windframe winds up in a situation similar to a heavily traumatic mission from long ago, injured and unable to get in contact with the other Autobots. He tries to stay safe using his old experiences as a base, while his friend Firehose sets out to find and save him.
